Maothought

Maothought: Within Chinese communism Marxism is considered to be the basic theory set down by Karl Marx, the unchanging and universally true principles, while Maothought is the application of those principles to the specific circumstances of China. Marxism is the pure theory and Maothought is the applied theory or practical ideology. Maothought represents the thought of Mao Zedong and has been described as the “Sinification” of Marxism, or, since Mao’s knowledge of Marxism was largely derived from Russian sources, as the Sinification of the “Russification” of Marxism. Questions have been raised regarding the validity of Maothought as a variant of Marxism given its significant departures from Marx’s ideas.
